Total dissolved solids are the measure of all dissolved ions in a solution. Total dissolved solids are generally reported as mg/l. Total dissolved solids are measured by evaporating away the water and measuring the solids that are left with a scale. Total dissolved solids can be approximated by conducting a conductivity test.

Total dissolved solids may be removed from water by removing the dissolved ions with:
